It’s World Penguin Day! What better day for a poem about penguins? I sometimes write acrostics to gather words and ideas for topics, but today I decided that I liked this acrostic well enough to share today.
Penguins promenade over a barren landscape of ice.
Elegant in black and white, they
Never fly. Instead when it’s time to eat, they
Glide gracefully through their frigid
Underwater hunting grounds, feasting on krill.
Indulging until full, they return to rocky
Nests to lay an egg. And
So the world begins anew.

What a great acrostic, Catherine! It flows beautifully and the form adds to, rather than dictates, the meaning–a hard thing to achieve in acrostics!

I like ‘Penguins promenade”, really seems true when I see videos of them in their habitat. The walk stilted, like many in a parade! I didn’t know it was World Penguin Day, so wish I could go to our zoo to celebrate with them! Thanks, Catherine! Enjoy your Sunday!

Your poem is a great tribute to penguins! I agree with Molly that it flows beautifully. I especially like the lines, “Penguins promenade”, “Elegant in black and white,” and “So the world begins anew.”
